For as long as I’ve been an adult (which has been a very long time) I order up my bathroom everyday and do a general cleaning on the weekend. Well to be honest since my kids were old enough they took over the fun task for me but really it takes less than 5 minutes a day and makes the Saturday chore, not such a chore.

I currently only have 1 bathroom so with 2 daughters, one takes Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the other takes Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday and they both general clean it on Saturday.

So here’s what the process of tidying up looks like:

  • Put away anything left out from the prior day or morning like hair tools, hygiene items etc.

  • Wipe down the counters and sink to clean any dust, hair, toothpaste etc

  • Clean Mirrors

  • Briefly scrub the toilet bowl using a disinfectant and toilet brush and flush then wipe the toilet tank and handle, cover and seat and finally the base. (You can use my bathroom anytime and there will never be pee, hair or anything gross on it)

  • Close the shower curtain if it’s left open

  • Empty the trash can

  • Sweep

Pretty simple right? It really is, takes a very short time out of your day. Then when Saturday rolls around general cleaning of the bathroom is no sweat.

Saturday cleaning process:

  • Remove everything from the shower and discard any empty bottles, soap bits etc

  • Scrub the tub, fixtures and walls

  • Wash off all the bottles from the shower and put them back. (I just don’t like scummy bottles)

  • Using a mold & mildew remover spray the inside of the shower curtain liner to remove soap scum

  • Thoroughly scrub the toilet bowl and wipe down the tank and handle, seat and cover and base

  • Clean the mirrors

  • Organize and wipe cabinets and drawers

  • Empty trash can and replace bag if need be

  • Remove all dirty linen

  • Sweep and mop the floor

That’s basically our routine and the thing is if everyone does their share in cleaning up after themselves then when it’s time to clean, it’s not a dreaded daunting task. Everything is fairly simple because well…for the most part its always pretty clean which when you think about it, doesn’t it make sense that the room we use to clean ourselves should always be the cleanest room?
